Due to the current events of Valve and Bethesda trying to make an easy buck of the taleneted modding community, the SoT team has decided to post this little notice (in style of course).
First and foremost, we ask that you you please stop making and even edit/remove any negative remarks you may have made against any mod authors such as the excellent Chesko and Isoku.
This is the straight up truth, these two talented mod authors have been competely used by Bethseda and Valve (owners of Steam). They were contacted and mislead into thinking that a pay-for-mod plan would be a good idea. The fact is that it is a good idea--being compensated for your passion is absolutely something each and everyone one of us would have jumped at. However, much more is at play here. They are forced to sacrifice the rights of their creations over to the demonic masters heads of Valve. They have literally just lost years of work and worst, lost a loyal fan-base that thinks they have just damaged free mods forever.
They haven't damaged anything beyond the point of repair........as long as we remain loyal and continue to support them. When a people come together, there is nothing they can not accomplish.
One thing we can do and should have done is donate more. Remember, they collectively sacrifice and offer up over hundreds of thousands of hours. If you can manage to not eat out at McDonald's ONCE PER MONTH, you could comfortably donate around $8.00 in U.S. currency. Once can easily see the amounts of downloads for these popular mods--over thousands. If you just 1,000 of the 100,000 people were willing to give a bit more rather than have a "give me" attitude, that would have donated $8,000 dollars to the authors. That is more than reasonable and $8 isn't so much that not one of you reading this could not afford it. For those that don't have an exxtra $8.00, you could easily give $2. (If you can afford a $40 dollar game, you can afford donating $2 dollars.) The "what's in it for me" attitude is what led to Bethesda and Valve being able to seduce our excellent authors.
They have been crucified by the very community that they have selfeshly given to for many years and that is not fair. So please, behave like civil humans and stop with the indecent insults and remarks--it won't change anything anyways. The better thing to do is direct your hatred toward both Bethesda and Valve and demand them to appologize for both cheating the mod authors out of their works and any monies that would have gone to them (sidenote: it looks as though only 25% of the purchase actuallly goes to the mod authors, the rest goes to Bethesda and Valve), but also for damaging their reputations by seducing them into this horrible idea that could have only been conceived by the most greedy of men.
You can do this by voiceing your strong opposition on Steam, anywhere and by signing a petition full of names of likeminded people. Send emails to Bethesda and Valve and without holding back, let your furry flow through words. Most importantly, be willing to put your money where your mouth is and don't purchase mods from steam at all. Don't purchase games on sale until they redact their horrible rollout.
Continue to share ideas and more thought on how to compensate modders reasonably when so much work has obviously gone into the mods and on how to force Valve to pull their recent paid-mod launch down. It can be done, and we can do it. But, it will be necessary that we stand together for devided we will fall. This is a major moment in PC gaming and the modding community. How we handle it and what we allow to happen to us will affect the future of our passions. So choose wisely.
The Sands of Time team are proud of Chesko and Isoku and are grateful for what they have created, further we are proud to be a part of a community that thrives on art and creation. We stand 100% against the recent Steam Rollout and will support any cause we can to strengthen the Nexus community and utterly destroy paid-mods.
Thank you for your time; kind regards,
The SoT Team
